Dream Detective (a6)
A downloadable game
>>> WHEN <<<
1989. Quantum entanglement reveals that consciousness is merely a measurable frequency.
1991. Humanity accesses the shared dream field.
1993. Government agents patrol the subconscious to extract evidence of hidden crimes.
You are an AGENT.
Your patrol THE SUBCONSCIOUS.
>>> HOW TO <<<
As an AGENT, you must extract KEYWORDS that connect SUSPECTS to CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES. To achieve this, you will interrogate individuals and explore the environment during their sleep.
Furthermore, obtaining keywords allows you to maintain dream synchrony and remain within the subconscious. If your REM TIME expires, the dream will collapse.
At the end of your shift, you will be informed of your performance.
And remember: a day of service is a day of food.

>>> ETHOS <<<
Thanks for playing my game!
This time, I wanted to build an organic but coherent interactive experience driven by natural language. A local LLM acts as a bridge between player input and structured data, allowing the same intent to be expressed differently every time while still preserving its meaning. Besides, NPCs' behaviour has been designed to be emergent.
The game is heavily inspired by William Gibson and Philip K. Dick. Its puzzles are not linear, and its protagonist is not the hero but an underdog. Doubt permeates everything: people question what is real, who they are, and whether any of it can be trusted. You step into a chaotic mess that somehow makes sense — and once it is over, you can download the log and check for yourself.
>>> ALPHA 6 <<<
This is an alpha version. While there is still much to polish, the core game mechanics are somehow functional. You can talk to characters, test their memories, observe their reactions, and question them. Every session generates a unique sci-fi scenario, ensuring that no two stories are ever the same. Sometimes the tension will escalate on its own; other times, you will have to pull the strings yourself.
- Min VRAM required: 4GB.
- Technical Note: Occasionally, the LLM may fail to run due to memory constraints. If this happens, try running it again or restarting the application.

I'm trying out the Windows version (I have a RTX 3070 Ti with 8GB VRAM) and it takes about 10-20 minutes to load up the "memories" and then none of the "tickets" seem to ever generate so I can't talk to anyone or inspect anything.
There was a last minute problem with exporting. I am working on a funcional version now.
No problem. I look forward to getting to try this out in earnest. :)
Hey! May you please try now? ^^! Thanks!
One point about the installation, it might be good to tell players that they need to use 7Zip and that they need to then extract the ".zip" folder while the part files are in the same directory.
I was able to get it running this time. I don't seem to be able to get very far since the party-goers tend to get into fights and then wake up, leaving me alone to fight with that door until I get in or the timer runs out.
Speaking of that door, There seems to be an invisible wall beside the window once you get in, and the post-it notes that spawn in there are not able to be interacted with, neither is the large painting in that room.
One last thing, it seems the NPCs have no context beyond what was last said to them and even that can do the old getting the user and LLM confused. I don't know how to fix that, and it might just be a limitation you set to enable it to run on less VRAM.
I still don't quite understand this game, but I like how weird it is and I am curious to see what you do with it.
